Emo Court, Co Laois, Ireland for the Office of Public Works
Conservation Plan with Blackwood Associates
Emo Court is a complex landscape
which bears traces of many phases of garden history and illustrates the changes
in taste through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries: from Baroque avenues
to informal landscape park, acquiring the qualities of a picturesque
landscape park and later embellished with high
Victorian horticulture. The Portarlingtons were highly cultured and well
connected owners who brought influences from some of the most significant
figures in designed landscapes of Britain and Ireland. Sarah wrote the historic landscape section of
the Conservation Plan.
